THE RESTAURANT

It all started more than 30 years ago. Back in 85, when Amparo and Vicente (François’ parents) returned to their hometown, Sagunto, after a long stay in France. They had emigrated to France, like many other Spaniards, looking for a better future in France. Annecy was the chosen place and there Amparo devoted herself to the culinary world and learned from the best chefs in the area. Among others, Marc Veyrat, who has been selected the best chef in France on several occasions.

Currently, our cuisine is based on the vital and gastronomic journey initiated by the family in France. We add the Mediterranean roots with seasonal ingredients, giving space to producers in the area to offer a creative, personal, and healthy proposal.

Un sitio ideal junto al teatro y castillo de Sagunto. Comimos en la terraza, estaba todo buenísimo y el servicio súper atento y amable. Celebramos un cumpleaños en familia y nos trataron genial, pendientes en todo momento de que estuviéramos cómodos. Lo recomiendo totalmente y seguro repetiremos.

Estuvimos cenando anoche, 15 de abril. La experiencia fue sensacional, la comida muy bien elaborada, con degustación del Menú Le Fou. El trato fue muy atento y el local muy bien ambientado. Seasonal menus with elaborated dishes that are constantly renewed and change every week. The Mediterranean character has led us to make it easy for the customer. Far from getting lost in endless menus, today we think that the most important is to enjoy food, especially ours. In general, we love cultural blending and in particular, gastronomy. Thus, we dare with recipes that the world and life put on our paths.

Wine Cellar

We have a firm commitment to the spread of wine culture. In 2003, we founded the Club Enófil Sagunt and François is currently Vice-President of Beaujolais, a non-profit organization in Valencia, which organizes the presentation of the Beaujolais Nouveau every year, as well as different activities around wine culture and gastronomy.

His passion for wine leads him to travel many kilometres to get to know wineries and he renews his wine list with the most interesting wines each year. At LeFou restaurant, we offer one of the best, most curious, and extensive wine list in town.

The Terrace

The historian Facundo Roca Ribelles gives its name to the square, but also one of the architects of the murmur of water that sounds in the garden: La Fuente.

The font is a replica of the ablutions font found in the small Jewish cemetery on the hillside of the Castle and the ‘Iberian Bulls’ are copies of a funerary monument found in the ‘Partida del Terrer’, next to the old Camarelles brick factory and near the ‘Cabeçolet’ site in the ‘Camí de Les Valls’. The whole complex is reminiscent of the ‘Fountain of the Lions’ in the Alhambra.

In the heart of Ciutat Vella

The Castle is very nice, but we love getting lost in the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter, following the ‘Ruta de las Ermitas’ and finding little treasures like the Plaza de Penyetes, which the residents still look after with care today.

No matter how much time passes, it still impresses us, living at the foot of the Roman Theater of Sagunto. We are privileged.

At 6 in 'Los Leones'

Popular during the 80s and 90s among the kids, they became the meeting point for ‘La Glorieta’: Shall we meet this afternoon at ‘Los Leones’? Without knowing that they were part of the monument that commemorated the Bourbon restoration and the end of the Carlist wars. With more than 30 meters high, it was topped by an allegory of Peace, at whose feet were four lions’ heads. Reduced to ruins in the Civil War, two of those heads watch over our terrace.

COMMITMENT

We have a double social commitment. Firstly, spreading the gastronomic and wine culture, and then returning part of our profits to our local region through our social commitment, which is reflected in our support to people who need it and the organization of sociocultural activities in our surroundings.

LeFou and music

At LeFou we are in love with music, and we are always ready to support any initiative related to it. Back in 2010, together with ADETURSA (Association for Tourism Development in Sagunto) we launched Nits Màgiques (Magical Nights). Years later, we continued betting on Raconets or Ressona festivals, organized by the local association Sagunt Reviu, and also Crepuscle festival.

La Tira de Dones

Amparo is a ceramist specialized in archaeological reproductions and an active member of Tira de Dones, an association of women artists from Camp de Morvedre that has been preparing a multidisciplinary collective exhibition on the 8th of March for more than 25 years, with a different topic each year in order to support different causes through fundraising. In addition, the association adorns the balconies of the ascent to the Castle for Sagunt a Escena festival in summer.

Our family is providing service almost since the first Sagunt a Escena Festival and we have worked in partnership with the festival management team, and with other companies by organizing their catering services. This effort has been rewarded over the years with the privilege of having received in our restaurant famous cultural figures such as Nuria Espert, Joan Manuel Serrat, Josep María Pou, Sara Vargas, Concha Velasco, Franco Batiato or Georges Moustaki….
